Thai government launches one district, one scholarship programme

BANGKOK, December 26 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Education, has launched the phase-3 one district, one scholarship programme for high school students nationwide. Speaking on Monday at the launch of the programme, Education Minister Woravat Auapinyakul encouraged smart high-school graduates aged no higher than 25, including those of vocational schools, whose grade point average (GPA) are no lower than 3.00 to register for the scholarship programme. Woravat said that 928 Thai students selected from each district nationwide whose families earn no higher than 150,000 baht per annum will be granted the scholarship to further their studies in five areas, including agriculture, industry, commerce, creativity and management in specific fields, at universities in 35 countries, including Thailand. According to the education minister, 464 selected Thai high school graduates whose families earn above 150,000 baht per annum will also be allowed to join the educational programme based on their families' own accounts. The education minister invited the Thai high-schools students to register for required tests from January 9-13, 2012, with a list of those winning the scholarship to be publicly announced on March 9, 2012.
