Iran willing to expand ties with Africa

New York, Sept 30, IRNA - Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Monday underscored the need for expansion of ties with African countries and the African Union.

In a meeting with African Union Commission President Jean Ping, held
on the sidelines of the 63rd annual session of the UN General
Assembly, Mottaki reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran
attaches importance to its ties with the African states.

He expressed his satisfaction with the great strides already made
towards fundamental and infrastructural cooperation in the areas of
trade, investment and joint ventures.

Referring to Iran's valuable experiences in the areas of exploration
and exploitation of oil and gas, Mottaki voiced Tehran's readiness to
participate in energy projects in the African continent.

Briefing the Iranian foreign minister on his union's performance
regarding settlement of crises, uprooting poverty, and interaction
with the international community, Ping called for expansion of
economic, trade, investment, communications, and educational relations
with the Islamic Republic.

He also appreciated Iran's efforts to help settle security and
stability in the African continent.
