N. Korea to conduct census next month: report

SEOUL, Sept. 27 (Yonhap) -- North Korea will carry out a census next month, a
news report said Saturday.

Tens of thousands of North Korean officials will conduct the survey from Oct.
1-15, Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.
The census "includes scores of indices including a demographic index, educational
level, working life and indices related with the sectors of the national
economy," Kim Kon-do, a section chief of the North's Central Statistics Bureau
told the KCNA.
North Korea's population stood at 23.47 million as of July this year, the U.S.
Central Intelligence Agency said on its Web site.
