Most of Qatar's LPG Exports Goes to Southeast Asia Markets
Doha (QNA) - Chief Executive Officer of Qatar International Petroleum Marketing Company (Tasweeq) Sa'ad Abdullah Al Kuwari has said that 75 percent of Qatar's liquefied petroleum gas exports go to Southeast Asia region, while 10 percent of these exports go to the markets of Northeast Asia.
Al Kuwari, who was addressing the opening session of the 24th World Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Forum, said the role of the Middle East in the LPG markers was expected to grow as increased supply from this region remain stable, adding that the demand was also increasing because of the growing economies' desire to obtain a clean fuel.
He noted that the production in the Middle East can meet the increasing demand from the growing markets in Asia.
Al Kuwari said that the Forum represents a platform to discuss key opportunities and challenges facing the future of LPG in the coming years, while expressing his confidence that the sessions of the conference will be useful for the participants.
Besides the development of Qatar's North Field that took Qatar's production of liquefied natural gas to 77 million tons a year, there are many other projects that have been developed, including gas liquefaction projects and naphtha and crude oil refining, Tasweeq CEO added.
Considering the new and varied projects, Al Kuwari said Qatar's production of LPG has grown to 10 million tons annually, a double growth compared to 2008. He pointed to the expectations of adding between one million and 2,000,000 tonnes in the next few years, a matter that will make Qatar one of the largest exporters of LPG in the world.
While noting that LPG can replace easily other sources of energy, he pointed out that Tasweeq sells LPG and can deliver it to any customer in the world.
