International council of SMEs offer help to Pakistan SME sector
Karachi, August 17, 2011 (PPI): The International Council of SMEs (ICSMEs) has expressed confidence in the Pakistan SME sector and has offered to help and support the sector to modernize through adoption of advanced technology.
President Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) Zulfikar Thaver said the ICSMEs has stated that the SME stakeholders in Pakistan are competent and keen to promote and develop the sector and the only drawback is the lack of funds for the development programs.
The ICSMEs explained that funds could be created through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) subscriptions from the corporations and the contributions channelized through the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) for direct SME promotion and development.
The ICSMEs has advised the Pakistani policy makers not to be discouraged but work step by step from grass root level and added that
SMEDA is best suited to enhance activities and should select items for up gradation which are essential for the common man like food, clothing and shelter.
SMEDA must endeavor to reduce the cost of production and improve the bench mark of grains, pulses, spices, food preparations primarily and then move on to the clothing items and next to the building materials.
ICSMEs has further explained that the cost of production could be reduced by the commercial exploitation of by products which Pakistan is lacking and the adoption of technology for value addition needs to be applied in most of the produce items. There is value in the byproducts which could be enhanced with technology and invited the SMEs to contact their representatives for importing technology from the global owners.
