Jimmy Engineer calls for reverting to Sufism
LAHORE, August 12, 2011 (PPI): Prominent artist, social crusader and peace activist Jimmy Engineer has called upon the people to study, understand and adhere to the teachings of great saints and revert to Sufism for achieving success in life and overcoming all their worldly problems and grievances.
In his periodical telephonic conversation with a group of journalist friends on the eve of the Independence Day, Jimmy Engineer said the message of love, brotherhood, peace, harmony and tolerance and above all unflinching faith in Almighty Allah contained in the teachings of the great saints provide for solution of all problems and riddance of all ills provided we adhere to their sayings in letter and spirit in dedicated and committed manner.
Jimmy Engineer said that if you have faith in and fear none but Almighty Allah then you are not afraid any one, howsoever powerful he/she may be, in the world.
He said Almighty Allah is the greatest artist of all times as oAl-Musawwir is one of His name and he is His disciple and still in the learning process from the Greatest Master of all times and ages.
He said that he had painted his since famous and popular Pakistan Movement series of paintings on the basis of images of bloodshed, violence torture and people filled trains which he was seeing in dreams while trying to sleep for a long period as he himself was born seven years after Pakistan had come into existence in August 1954 in a remote area of Balochistan, Loralai. He said that when he was working on a huge canvass, the images stopped coming in his dreams and he had left that canvass unfinished and incomplete there and then.
He said he had since long dedicated the Pakistan Movement series paintings to the millions of men, women and children who struggled, suffered and even lost their lives for the creation of a separate Motherland of their own under the inspiring leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
He said that he is painting for years together, most of his earning coming from sale of paintings he spends in helping the needy people to the maximum extent possible. He said he firmly believes in reaching out the people to help them and this is what is expected from all others individuals and organizations who want the needy, poor and destitute people should be coming to them.
Jimmy Engineer said that he is committed to serve the needy people in general and the Special Children in particular in order to alleviate their sufferings as much as possible.
He said that he has introduced the Fun, Food and Awareness Programmes for the Special Children adding that if the physically handicapped, mentally retarded, deaf, dumb and blind children are called as the Special Children, they should also be given special attention by their parents, relatives in particular and the society at large in general.
He also said that he has also introduced the walk culture in the country and has undertaken numerous walks for various causes and elimination of ills from the society including solo spiritual peace walk from Islamabad to New Delhi in 2001. The walk had to be terminated at Wagah Border on Pakistan due to sudden flaring up of tension and suspension of all road, rail and air links between India and Pakistan, he poinntedly stated.
Responding to questions about his recently concluded extended goodwill tour of Singapore, Jimmy Engineer said that while in Singapore he had availed every opportunity to project and promote soft, moderate, tolerant , progressive and forward looking image of Pakistan and its people during his visits to various education and art institutions besides addressing the members of the Rotary Club at Tanglin.
He said that he had presented canvass prints of his Pakistan Movement and other paintings including the architectural compositions and the poverty series to each of the institution as well as the Rotary Club which he had visited.
