Pakistan says U.S. incursions unproductive

Islamabad, Sept 18 PPI: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Thursday termed United States incursions into Pakistan as "unproductive" and warned these could destabilize
the situation.

He told news conference here that cross border violations will not benefit U.S. on
long-term basis and would certainly affect ongoing efforts on war on terror.

Qureshi urged nations should respect sovereignty of each other. Pakistan too has a
responsibility to ensure there was no incident from its side that violates territory
of others or impacts their sovereignty.

He called for a long-term strategy to address situation and said "internal realities
and compulsions" have to be kept in view. ``We must increase friends for Pakistan
and not create more enemies, we have to protect our interests, sovereignty and
understand given situation.''

Foreign Minister said it was agreed between Washington and Islamabad that U.S. would
not violate Pakistan integrity. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani during his meeting
with top U.S. militrary commander Admiral Michael Mullen expressed Pakistan's point
of view in clear terms and conveyed aspirations of its people of Pakistan.

``We also conveyed to Admiral Mullen there are principles to be observed at
international level and sovereignty of every country should be respected at all
costs. In present circumstances, there was need to understand each other's point of
view.''

Qureshi said it was established rule in the war against terror that if any action
were required inside Pakistan it will be taken by Pakistan's forces while action
inside Afghanistan will be conducted by international forces.
