Power projects mushroom to end outages

Hanoi (VNA)- The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) expects to add some 3,000 MW to the national power grid network late this year with a number of power plants going to become commissioned or getting expanded soon.

They include EVN investments in hydro power in Central Highlands and
northern mountainous provinces such as Buon Kuop, Pleikrong and Tuyen Quang.

The national giant is also tapping coal mines in northern Quang Ninh
province to expand the Uong Bi thermal power plant and build a new one in
neighbouring Hai Phong city. It is also finishing the construction of a
gas-fired thermal electricity plant in Omon district, the Mekong Delta
province of Can Tho .

In addition, 10 other power projects built by other investors are also in
the final stage of construction, mostly thermal power, such as the Son Dong
and Cam Pha plant in Quang Ninh province and Ca Mau 2 in the southernmost
city of Ca Mau .

EVN is working on 40 electricity generation projects, of them 28 are under
construction and 12 others are in the preparatory stage.

The group is also rushing for 200 projects on 200-500 kW grid network
nationwide to connect the new power generation sources with customers such
as 220 kV grid networks to provide power generated by the Tuyen Quang power
plant for the Hanoi outskirt district of Soc Son and the northern
mountainous provinces of Bac Can and Thai Nguyen.--Enditem
