Flood submerges 900 ha of farmland in Sebangfai, Yommalath
Vientiane, july 26.(KPL)- Over 900 ha of farmland in two districts Yommalath and Sebangfai of Khammouane province has been submerged by flood.
Rice farmland in Yommalath is the most hard-hit by torrential rains causing almost 700 ha under water. The flood has destroyed dozens of fishponds and killed 112 cattle. More than 200 ha of rice farmland in Sebanfai district is reportedly flooded with additional 0.35 ha of various kinds of crash crops destroyed.
The Khammouane Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Service has recently given 40 tonnes of rice seeds to affected farmers and encouraged them to do substitution farming to compensate the loss of cash crops planted previously.
