Haima damage estimated at over 600 billion kip
VIENTIANE,JULY.(KPL)- The government has estimated the damage caused by typhoon Haima for six northern and central provinces of Laos at more than 600 billion kip, says an official.
Seventeen deaths have been reportedly killed by the natural disaster, including eight in Xiengkhouang, five in Vientiane province, two in Sayaboury and two in Borikhamsay.
Office Head of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Vichith Sindavong, told a press conference where foreign diplomatic officials and representatives of international organisation and local news people were present, last Friday that the typhoon hit Houaphanh, Xiengkhouang, Sayabury, Vientiane province, Borikhamsay and Khammouane on 24-26 June.
Mr. Vichith said that typhoon Haima affected 650 families and destroyed 300 houses, basic infrastructure and 6,000 ha of farmland.
He said that the government welcomed relief aid from friendly international community and donors to help those infected from the natural disaster.
