QAFCO to Supply Aqueous Ammonia to Mesaieed Power Company

Doha, July 14 (QNA) - Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO) will supply about 13,000 tonnes of aqueous ammonia annually to Mesaieed Power Company Limited (MPCL) for 24 years, the company said.
Qafco CEO and Vice Chairman Khalifa Abdullah Al Sowaidi and MPCL Finance and Administration Director Mohammed Al Harami signed the agreement at QAFCO's Doha office Wednesday in the presence of senior executives from both the companies.
The aqueous ammonia solution will be used in the power generators at the Mesaieed Power Plant. Al Sowaidi said, "Aqueous ammonia's role as a highly effective agent in reducing Nox (Nitrogen Oxides) emissions is well known, establishment of this facility at QAFCO complements our strong commitment towards protecting our environment."
Al Harami, in a statement, said the MPCL is committed to environmental standards, maintaining a clean environment and supporting all national initiatives aimed at producing clean energy for sustainable development in Qatar. Qafco signed a similar agreement last month with Ras Qirtas Power Plant and is planning to go for new deals with a number of leading industries in the country. Aqueous ammonia, a chemical compound composed of 19% ammonia, is used as an agent to absorb nitrogen oxides produced during the burning of gas in power generators and industrial plants.
The aqueous ammonia facility was established in QAFCO premises in 2009 with an annual production capacity of 60,000 tonnes. (QNA)
