Steel plate cutting marks indigenous construction of missile boats at Karachi Shipyard


Karachi, July 12, 2011 (PPI): Steel plate cutting ceremony of Pakistan Navy’s Fast Attack Craft (Missile) boats was held Tuesday at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works KSEW. Secretary Defence Production, Lt. General Shahid Iqbal was chief guest. After delivery of Small Tankers-cum- Utility Ships STUS Rasadgar & Madadgar, launch of F-22P frigate, FAC Missile boats being built at KSEW with help of China will be equipped with anti surface missiles, automatic guns and anti-missile close in weapon system.

Appreciating efforts of KSEW, chief guest said their contribution in naval shipbuilding is commendable and their capabilities in future will be fully utilized in construction of more naval platforms. He assured Defence Ministry’s support to KSEW in all its plans for modernization, expansion. He expressed confidence in Pakistan becoming a leading shipbuilding country in the region in line with its potential strategic location.

KSEW Managing Director Commodore Sajid Wazir Khan spoke of shipbuilding capabilities of KSEW and said this project is a challenge and opportunity to establish capability to undertake upcoming tasks while ensuring highest standards of quality. He lauded indigenous Fast Attack Craft construction and said it will go long way to support this important strategic public sector industry. Ceremony was attended by representatives of Defence Ministry, China Shipbuilding & Offshore Company, senior naval officials.
