Qatar National Food Security Programme Participates in WCSJ2011

Doha, June 29 (QNA) - Qatar National Food Security Programme participated in WCSJ2011-06-29 which concluded here today.
The first conference day included a panel session by QNFSP "Energy, Water and Food Nexus: The Science of Optimization and Sustainability" that addressed how research, innovation and technology breakthroughs in the three interdependent areas of energy, water, and food would influence one another. Furthermore, this panel discussion did focus on how policy goes hand-in-hand with practical programs and initiatives to develop a sustainable model for energy, water, and food
production and consumption. The importance of Creating Shared Values CSV in the international food supply chain was highlighted .The panel illustrated the strategy of Qatar National Food Security Programme that addresses the sustainability of resources and food security challenges.
Energy, water, and food are interlinked and affected by a variety of socio-economic as well as environmental factors that may result in arduous demands on each individual resource.
About 90% of the world s fresh water supply goes to agriculture, while renewable sources of water are fast depleting. The conference was a platform for QNFSP to shed light on various food security concerns and to highlight the awareness on Energy, Water and Food nexus. The session was monitored by experts like Fahad Al Attiya Chairman of Qatar National Food Security Programme, Dr Christian Mersemann Executive Director of Global Mechanism of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, DrTony Allan Head of London Water Research group-Kings Collage London (UK), Dr Rabi Mohtar Executive Director of Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute and Dr Patrick Linke Chief Engineer at Qatar National Food Security Programme, and moderated by Shiulie Ghosh, a renowned senior presenter at Al Jazeera English Channel.
