Laos, UN launch anti-drug campaign

VIENTIANE,JUNE. (KPL)- The Lao National Commission for Drug Control and Supervision and the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) launched the Drug Awareness Raising and Prevention Campaign on Monday.
The campaign is designed to educating the youth about drugs and its menace as the country is experiencing the resurgence of opium production, heroin trafficking and significant increase in amphetamine-type stimulants in all aspects-production, trafficking and abuse. June 26 is the international anti-drug day when anti-drug activities and campaign are held to raise public awareness on preventive measures against narcotics drugs.
Present at Monday’s meeting on the launching the campaign were Minister to Prime Minister’s Office and Chairperson of the Lao National Commission for Drug Control and Supervision Soubanh Srithirath, Representative of the UNODC to Lao PDR Mr. Leik Boonwaat and Vice Chairman of Lao Journalists Association, Mr. Somsanouk Mixay.
The meeting is also attended by well-known singers Sack, Aluna, Maylaong, Tee Oudalay, 25th SEA Games Judo medalist Khemkham Kommanyvong and 2010 Miss Laos Malaythip.
