NA lectures Lao-Chinese diplomatic ties
VIENTIANE,JUNE.(KPL)- The National Assembly held a lecture last Friday about the diplomatic ties between Laos and China over the last 50 years. The lecture was designed to ensure officials and party members of the National Assembly’s office grasp and understand the tradition of friendly relations, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and China over the last 50 years.
In April, 1961 Lao Prime Minister Prince Souvanna Phouma visited China where he signed an agreement on establishing the diplomatic relations between Laos and China. Four years later, Secretary General of Lao People’s Party Kaysone Phomvihane paid a 50-day working visit to China to discuss with China on the Chinese government assistance for revolutionary cause in Laos.
Since the Lao People’s Democratic Republic was founded on December 2, 1975, China has further provided assistance to Laos for its national protection, healing of war wounds and the livelihood restoration of the Lao ethnic people.
In February, 1976, the two countries established Laos-China Friendship Associations. Since then the Lao PDR and the People’s Republic of China have maintained their exchange visits of officials at all levels. Bilateral trade between Laos and China has increased constantly. In 2010, the bilateral trade between the two countries reached USD 945 million increased by 51.7 per cent from 2009 as the export from Laos to China reached USD 519.8 million up by 70.6 per cent and the import from China to Laos was USD 425 million increased by 33.7 per cent.
