Abbawi, ICRC discuss Camp Ashraf issue
Baghdad (NINA) – Labeed Abawi, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary, discussed with Magne Barth, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Baghdad, the Iraqi government's position of Camp Ashraf.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said "Abbawi met on Monday with Barth and talked on the position of the Iraqi government of Camp Ashraf and its intention to close the camp by the end of this year in line with the legal frameworks and human rights."
The statement added "Barth welcomed the Iraqi government’s intention to resolve this issue peacefully and in harmony with international standards and never to send the residents of the camp to Iran against their desire."
The meeting also dealt with a number of issues relating to the work and activities of the organization, particularly the joint efforts to investigate the missing Iranians and Iraqis after the Iraq-Iran war.
