U.S. forces chief in Qadisiyah: Eco Base closed by end of 2011, politicians behind the attacks on it
Diwaniya (NINA) - Commander of U.S. forces in Diwaniya Province announced preparations to close Eco Base, 3 km south of Diwaniya, by the end of this year, where the U.S. forces center since 2003.
Lt. Col. Scud Kipper said during a press conference held on Sunday in Eco "according to the security agreement signed between the Iraqi and U.S. governments and the US withdrawal agenda from Iraq, preparations are under way to close the base in Diwaniya, by the end of December of this year."
He referred to the increase in attacks against the base during the past three months, which led to the deaths of many Americans and Iraqis and the destruction of civilian facilities.
He accused some politicians in the province of being behind these attacks and their interference in the security aspects pertaining to the security of the province and trying to change many of the security chiefs in the province with other people vulnerable to be controlled by these politicians.
