MORE FLOOD VICTIMS EVACUATED IN NORTHERN BUKIT MERAH
IPOH (Malaysia), Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Fifty more flood victims were
evacuated from around Bukit Merah near this northern city Tuesday afternoon bringing the number of victims moved to relief centres as at 5pm at 188 people.
A spokesman from the police station near the area said Tuesday afternoon's evacuees mainly came from two villages -- Kampung Parit Haji Hasan and Kampung Alor Setanguk.
All the victims were being sheltered in three schools, namely Sekolah
Kebangsaan Bukit Merah (138 people), Sekolah Kebangsaan Alor Pongsu (34) and
Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Haji Dahalan (16), he told Bernama.
He said there had been no change in the water level at the Bukit Merah Dam
and the affected villages were inundated under one metre of water.
The victims were evacuated by the Fire and Rescue Services and Civil
Defence departments while the Welfare Department is looking into their needs at
the relief centres.
