Laos urges more investment in renewable energy

VIENTIANE.JUNE.(KPL)- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith has urged investors in ASEM member states to invest in renewable energy in Laos thus contributing to promoting energy security in the country and its Mekong neigbours.
Speaking at the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Foreign Ministers Meeting, Mr. Thongloun emphasized the vital role of energy security in sustainable development.
“To realize energy security it is necessary to use forms of renewable energies and ensure energy efficiency in every sector of economic system,” said Mr. Thongloun.
ASEM Ministerial Meeting was held on 6-7 June in Hungar. The meeting was participated by foreign ministers and representatives of 46 ASEM member states and ASEAN Secretariat and the European Commission.
The meeting was aimed at flaming and evaluating the cooperation under ASEM framework since the ninth ASEM Ministerial Meeting which was held in Vietnam in 2009.
The participants also discussed issues under the theme “Working together on non-traditional security challenges”
