Vientiane official learn map of Socio-economic ATLAS
VIENTIANE,JUN.(KPL) - The Statistics Department, Ministry of Planning and Investment held a training course on using new website www.decide.la or www.laoatlas.net on the map of Socio-economic ATLAS of the Lao PDR for officials of Vientiane province on 1-3 June.
The ATLAS is a database on socio-economic to be materialised into practice as planned and to disseminate widely information on the map of socio-economic of the Lao PDR countrywide.
The training course was participated by over 20 line heads and high-ranking officials from Vientiane Planning and Investment, Labour, Public Health, Education and Agriculture and Forestry Services.
The ATLAS will provide national statistics on all information on economic development plan in order to lead national decision-making and monitoring the progress of implementation of MDG of the Laos PDR.
DECIDE GIS is an online application that provides a user-friendly interface to explore, query, analyse and download a wide range of socio-economic spatial date layers and to customize maps on specific topics and areas of interest.
The Lao DECIDE info project strives to stimulate data and information sharing among sectors and administrative levels towards improved evidence-based socio-economic planning and decision-making in the Lao PDR. Through a set of tools and procedures, the project actively promotes the availing of spatial and statistical data - initially from the Lao national Population and Housing Census 2005 - in various formats to users with a variety of individual needs.
The book of Socio-economic ATLAS of the Lao PDR has been made in cooperation with the Statistic Department, Centre for Development and Environment in the Lao PDR, University of Bern of Switzerland, Water Resources and Environment Administration under the sponsorship of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
