Nujeifi: Turkey wants to solve the water problem in the bilateral agreement

Baghdad (NINA) – Parliament Speaker, Osama Al Nujeifi, agreed with his Turkish counterpart, Mehmet Ali Sahin, to end the problem of Iraq's share of water under a bilateral agreement after the Turkish elections.

A statement issued by Nujeifi’s office today quoted him as announcing "a real intention to solve the water problem on the Turkish side, the two parliaments support the development of relations."

Nujeifi, according to the statement, called on the Turkish parliament to launch an initiative to support efforts to stabilize Iraq's share of water in the framework of the Convention that describes the amount of quota allocated to Iraq from the Tigris and Euphrates, noting that agricultural projects are disabled in the country waiting to know the volume of water.

For his part, the Turkish parliament speaker promised to pass the agreement with Iraq on its share of water after the general elections in Turkey, stressing the importance of strengthening relations between the two brotherly peoples.

The statement said that Nujeifi and the delegation accompanying him met with the Turkish Parliamentary Committee of the Turkish-Iraqi Friendship and stressed the strengthening of relations between the two peoples through closer ties between the two parliaments.
