GUANGDONG INVESMENT MISSION FOR MALAYSIA

By Tham Choy Lin

BEIJING, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Another big group of Chinese investors from Guangdong will visit Malaysia this week led by Wang Yang, Communist Party secretary of the wealthy southern China province.

Guangdong vice-governor, Wang Qing Liang, and over 500 businessmen will be
in the delegation which will arrive in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday for a four-day
visit, Malaysian Consul General in Guangzhou, Roslan Abdul Rahman, told Bernama.

The delegation includes key Communist Party officials from economic hubs of
Shenzhen and Dongguan.

The mission will call on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi
and attend a Guangdong (China)-Malaysia Trade and Investment Seminar 2008 at
which Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak and International Trade and Industry
Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will be present on Friday.

They will also tour Cyberjaya and Melaka.

The visit comes a year after Guangdong governor, Huang Huahua, led a
similar number of businessmen to Malaysia.

Roslan said the delegation would be looking into investment areas,
particularly on information technology relating to tourism.

"This speaks volumes of their interest in Malaysia and the momentum of
trade between us. Last year, the objective of the Guangdong mission was to get
investments into China, this year it is to get investors from China to invest in
Malaysia.

"We are looking to this, there are a lot of things that we can share
especially in Cyberjaya. This augurs well for Malaysia-China relations," he
added.
