DUBAI MALL ECLIPSES EIFFEL TOWER IN STEEL USAGE
DUBAI, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- The soon-to-be-opened Dubai Mall here has seen the deployment of more than 13,550 tonnes of structural steel to date, surpassing the total amount used in the construction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, a report said.
The French landmark used 7,300 tonnes of steel, Emirates Business reported,
citing Emaar Malls Group general manager Yousif Al Ali.
The Dubai Mall, touted to be one of the world's largest shopping malls, is
undergoing finishing touches before its opening on Oct 30.
It is located next to the Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building which is
scheduled for completion next year.
A vertical construction for the mall was not preferred to keep the
spotlight
on Burj Dubai, Ali said, according to the business daily.
In its first year of opening, Dubai Mall expects a footfall of 30 million
visitors. It will feature more than 1,200 retail outlets, almost triple in
number to any other mall offering in Dubai.
