VIETNAMESE CRIME RING BUSTED
JOHOR BAHARU (Malaysia), Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Southern state of Johor police have detained 27 Vietnamese, four of them women, and with their arrests believe they have put paid to a Vietnamese robbery gang that was preying on their compatriots working in Iskandar Malaysia (a mega infrastructure development project) and the surrounding region.
Johor police chief Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said they were rounded up on
Saturday and police also recovered five parangs (dagger), two swords, two
imitation pistols, an electric immobiliser, 35 cable ties, three watches, 14
telephone chargers and 12 handphones from the gang.
"All the gang's members also did not have any valid travel documents," he
told reporters here Monday.
He added that with the crippling of the gang, police believe they have
solved 14 robberies where Vietnam nationals were victims in Johor.
