Laos, the Philippines to establish business councils
VIENTIANE,MAY.(KPL) - Laos and the Philippines will soon establish Lao-Philippine and Philippine-Lao Business Councils to underpin bilateral investments and trade volume between two countries.
The plan has been discussed during Lao Ambassador to the Philippines Mrs. Malaivieng Sakonniyoum called on the Chairman of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Philippine, Dr. Francis Chua, in Manila, on 19 May.
The establishment of Lao-Philippine and Philippine-Lao Business Councils was to materialise the results of high-ranking bilateral meeting between Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong and Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino in Jakarta, the Philippines on 7 May and completed visit to Laos, of Philippine Minister of Foreign Affairs Aibert Del Rosario on 6-7 April.
During the meeting, Lao Ambassador to the Philippines Mrs. Malaivieng and her delegation the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry have discussed on addressing bilateral business problems and establishment of Lao-Philippine Business Council and Philippine-Lao Business Council each other.
They have considered exchanging high-ranking delegations between two Chambers of Commerce and Industry to explore potential investment in Laos. The delegation of Lao Chamber of Commerce and Industry will attend in the upcoming business forum in Manila, the Philippines on October, aimed at giving opportunities to both sides businessman to meet and exchange experiences with each other.
The volume bilateral trade between Laos and the Philippines has been noticed that it was low if compared to ASEAN countries members so they have strongly intended to underpin bilateral business investments of Pilipino in Laos.
