Japan-funded mother-child health project accessed more communities
VIENTIANE,MAY.(KPL) - Mother and Child Health Improvement Project funded by the Japanese Government has gain an access to three more districts, making five districts in Vientiane Capital having the project implemented.
The project was launched in 2006 in Saythany and Park-Ngum. It was expanded to three more districts in 2009 including Sikhottabong, Nasaythong and Saysettha.
Fourteen Japanese volunteers have been working with 14 dispensaries of 31 villages in the five districts in Vientiane Capital. They have helped local officials conduct over 100 health checkups and 127 health education campaigns.
Over 3,800 people have benefited from health checkup campaigns since 2006. In addition, the project has trained village volunteers and dispensary officials in remote areas of target districts to enable them to help pregnant women and children access health service.
A meeting to review the final phase of the project was held on 20 May at the Vientiane Public Health Service.
Present at the meeting were representatives of the Ministry of Public Health, the Vientiane Capital Public Health Service, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and relevant officials of both sides.
