Over $US 37,000 worth of equipment donated to MAF by FAO
VIENTIANE,MAY.(KPL) - Over $US 37,000 worth of information technology was officially donated to the Ministry of Agriculture by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through the Strengthening the Policy, Strategy and Project Formulation and Management Capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry project (TCP/LAO/6603) on 11th May 2011.
The ministry received 9 computers, 3 LCD projectors, 3 printers and other information technology equipment.
The project aimed to strengthen the capacity of MAF staff in policy and strategy formulation, development and prioritization of programmes, action plans and project concept papers and harmonization and adjustment of sector policy and legal frameworks to comply with the country’s international commitments. It was done through hands-on experience in data collection, analysis and preparation of issue papers, briefs and subsector reports, and in-country workshops.
Indeed in view of the predominant role assigned to the agriculture and forestry sectors in national development plans and in view of the challenges facing the sector in adjusting to regional economic integration, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) has to carry out all these functions.
The thrust of the revised Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) signed in October 2008 was on strengthening MAF’s ability to design and formulate agricultural development projects and implement and monitor them, as well as providing improved access to key information for senior management and better and more timely agricultural statistics.
These objectives were largely achieved.
