BERNAMA DENIES SENDING SMS TEXT ON SEVEN COMPONENT PARTIES LEAVING BN
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency,
Bernama, Friday denied sending out a Short Messaging Service (SMS) text on seven Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties holding a news conference to announce that they were quitting the coalition.
Bernama Editor-in-Chief Yong Soo Heong said Bernama was not responsible for the dissemination of that false news via SMS text by unknown persons.
He said every Bernama SMS news text was sent via the short code 26822 to
clients registered with telecommunications companies Maxis and Celcom, and
followed a specific format.
Yong said he also received the false news via SMS this evening, and
immediately issued the denial.
He said Bernama would lodge a report with the police on the use of
Bernama's name by irresponsible people in disseminating the false news via SMS
text.
