Japan supports Lao disabled
VIENTIANE,MAY.(KPL) - The Government of Japan has provided 166,443 US$ grant assistance to Asian Development with the Disabled Persons (ADDP) to carry out the project to enhance the employment opportunity for the disabled by providing the vocational training in Vientiane Capital.
The ADDP, a Japanese NGO has been working in Laos mainly in the area of support for the disabled since 1992. The grant is under the Grant Assistance Scheme for Japanese NGOs’ Projects.
The grant contract was signed at the Embassy of Japan to the Lao P.D.R, on 10 May, between Ms. Junko Yokota, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao P.D.R, and Ms. Tomiko Yashiro, President of the ADDP with the attendance of Mr. Bounvien Louangyot, President of the Lao Disabled People’s Association, Mr. Eita Yashiro, former Minister of Posts and Telecommunications of Japan and other officials concerned, according to Tuesday’s press release of Japanese Embassy in Laos.
Under the project, the ADDP closely work with the Laos Disabled People’s Association (LDPA) as primary counterpart by providing vocational trainings at the ADDP workshop.
Around 60 trainees of the disabled will be trained by this scheme annually.
ADDP will also set up virtual business environment at workshop to help the disabled to experience how to run actual business with customers by utilizing OJT method.
This project will appeal to the society of Laos in order to build the further positive understanding toward the disabled and also to promote successful creation of employment opportunity for the disabled.
The ADDP is an independent not-for profit organisation to operates several grass-roots projects in collaboration with the disabled persons directly to aim to support their activities in the Lao P.D.R. Especially, with strong networks and utmost grass-rooted efforts, the ADDP is implementing several projects to support disabled people’s activities directly such as disabled sports promotion (JICA Project: kick off from 2009) and IT training and educational promotion for the visually impaired and leadership development seminar and so many other positive activities initiated by the disabled persons.
The ADDP’s vision is to create the barrier- free society for all, where we could all live our full lives with dignity without any discrimination.
