Turkish Day celebrated at National University of Modern Languages

Islamabad, May 10, 2011 (Pakistan Observer): Turkish Day was celebrated at National University of Modern Languages Monday. Turkish Day celebrations were organized by the NUML Turkish Language Department.

Mustafa Babir Hizlam, Ambassador of the Turkey was the chief guest on the occasion while Prof. Dr Aziz Ahmad Khan, Rector NUML presided over the function accompanied by Director General NUML Brig. Azam Jamal. Mustafa Babir Hizlam, Ambassador of the Turkey said that NUML has played a catalyst role in strengthening Pak-Turk relations. He also lauded the efforts of Turkish language department of NUML and appreciated the performance of the contestants. “Such events promote the learning of language and culture among students”, he added.

Speaking on the occasion NUML Rector Dr Aziz said Turkish Department at NUML has made extraordinary progress to ensure language proficiency among its students in early stages .The Turkish Embassy has rendered remarkable contribution in launching Masters Programme in Turkish Language and intending to offer doctorate as well, he added.

The students delivered speeches on topics like Iqbal and Turkey, Pakistan-Turkey Friendship, Turk Culture and its similarities with Pakistan. They also presented skits and songs in Turkish language to entertain the audience. Muniza Setthi, Yasir Tahir, Faisal Masood and Khateeb-ur-Rehman were adjudged first, second, third and fourth respectively.
