8% claim they have atleast one person who returned to settle permanently in Pakistan: Survey

Islamabad, May 05, 2011 (PPI): Only 8% Pakistanis claim that they have atleast one person in their household who has now returned to settle permanently in Pakistan after working abroad for a while, revealed the findings of a survey conducted by Gilani Poll/Gallup Pakistan.

In the survey, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the country were asked the following question: “Is there anyone in your household who has returned to Pakistan permanently after working abroad for a while?” Results show that 8% respondents replied in the affirmative while 90% said no and 2% did not respond.

A comparison with results of a similar question asked in 2003 shows that the situation has not changed significantly since then. In 2003, a similar 8% had said that there is atleast one person in their household who has returned to settle in Pakistan after working abroad while 91% had said no and 1% had not responded.

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2774 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during April 2011. Error margin is estimated to be approximately + 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
