Sindh Human rights Department receives 3836 complaints

Karachi, May 05, 2011 (PPI): Sindh Minister for Human Rights Ms. Nadia Gabol said on Thursday that her department has so far received 3836 complaints of rights’ violation most of which relate to so-called honour killing, domestic violence against women, private jails, sexual assault, illegal occupation of lands and acid throwing.

In a statement she said a complaint cell with toll free phone number has been set up at the department for swift disposal of such cases. The cell operates round the clock and in case of emergency, the matter is referred to concerned authorities without delay while the cases of dispute are referred to reconciliation committee headed by Director Human Rights and advocates, psychologists, social workers and notables as its members.

Nadia said since the human rights cases do not surface generally, her department plans launching awareness drive besides setting up free legal aid centers in five districts of province including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu and Ghotki. The department is also taking steps to ensure provision of good atmosphere to women at women police stations.
