Yemen, IFES review partnership

SANA'A, Sep 02 (Saba) - Chairman of the Supreme Commission for
Election and Referendum Khalid Abdul Wahab al-Sharif met here
Tuesday with the executive director of the International Foundation
for Election Systems IFES Peter Williams.

The meeting dealt with means to promote partnership between the two
bodies and reviewed current preparations for the upcoming
parliamentary elections which would be held in 2009.

At the meeting al-Sharif welcomed an IFES proposal to draw up an
understanding draft between the commission and the IFES and that
focuses on implementing a program to support media activities and
election register.

The commission may also receive technical assistance from the US
Agency for International Development USAID.

Al-Sharif said the commission is very keen to benefit from the IFES
expertise since it is an international body specialized for the
management of elections.

He appreciated the role of the IFES during the last period to
support the commission to run past elections.
