Laos won’t experience failure lessons regarding land use

VIENTIANE,APRIL 22.(KPL) - President of Land Management Authority said it was necessary to assess land exploitation and use by investors to ensure benefit for the government and people and prevention of impact on environment so that Laos would not experience like other countries remained poor although their rich natural resources had been exploited.
Mr. Kham-ouane Boupha said during the meeting on land concession and land leash which was held in Vientiane on April 21 that many companies had complied with agreements and laws, contributing to the government revenue collection and the employment of the Lao people but not very small number of companies failed to fully realize what they said in their contracts.
Their land clearance is focused on natural forest, where people find food and farmland so that it is necessary to evaluate and study into the problem of land use and exploitation by investors, according Mr. Khamouane.
He said that to prevent the inefficient exploitation of land resources proper study is needed because the Party and government policy stipulated that it was necessary to have studied and allocated and classified land before its use is allowed.
