Pakistani kite flying proving fatal, should be banned: Human Rights Network

Karachi, April 22, 2011 (PPI): Terming the activity as fraught with dangers, President Human Rights Network Karachi Intikhab Alam Suri has urged government to put a ban on kite flying. He was talking to media at his office after an incident in which one Abdur Rehman was seriously wounded after getting entangled with a metal string that was used in kite flying.

Suri criticized all those who are engaged in kite flying; particularly those who use metal strings in this activity.

Furthermore he urged the authorities to make appropriate laws regarding such issues where activities prove perilously threatening.

Drawing government’s attention towards the annual ‘Basant Kite Flying Festival’, he said Basant has nothing to do with our culture; rather the activity has seen the loss of several precious lives, and added that it is high time the government take up the issue seriously otherwise injuries and losses of lives are likely to increase with this activity.
