Jakarta, Aug 31 (ANTARA) - Political parties in Indonesia have been urged to remain obeying law No 10, 2008 on general elections and General Election Committee (KPU) regulation No 19/2008 on guidelines pertaining to the implementation of the general elections.
Wahidah Suaib, a member of the general elections supervisory agency (Bawaslu),said here on Sunday that political parties which were holding campaigns in the form of social/cultural activities during the fasting month of Ramadhan should have met the prerequisites in the law and KPU regulations.
"Please be consistent in implementing the law and KPU regulations. While socio-religious activities in the framework of compaigns are actually forbidden, but please carry out such activities according to the regulations," she said.
However campaigns could be carried out either through indirect and limited or face-to-face meetings.
Such campaigns through limited meetings should be carried out indoors for which the number of participants will not exceed the capacity of the hall. At central level, the number of people may reach 1000, 500 for at provincial level and 250 at district level.
The campaigns carried out through face-to-face meetings is implemented three days after political parties and members of the regional representatives council are already declared as participants of the 2009 general elections.
"General meetings are held 21 days before the entry of silence period," she said. Campaigns held outdoors, publicly and outdoors in the presence of many party cadres and supporters is a general meeting.
