Master plan of Nam Ou hydropower dam completes

VIENTIANE,APRIL 19.(KPL) - Governments of Laos and China have signed an agreement on Nam Ou hydropower construction project.
The agreement was signed in Vientiane on 11 April between Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Thongmy Phomvisay and General Director of Sinohydro Corporation Limited of China.
The Sinohydro Corporation Limited has planned to develop Nam Ou hydropower dam, which is seven dams to barrier Nam Ou river.
After the Nam Ou dam completes, it will generate 5 billion kilowatts/hour/yearly and supply permanent electricity to the northernmost provinces.
The project will also improve the transportation between Phongsaly and Luang Prabang provinces.
In addition, the project will spur socio-economic development, tourism and industries in lower part of Nam Ou river and provide jobs opportunities to local people.
The Nam Ou river is the biggest branch of Mekong River stretches 475 km from Phongsaly to Luang Prabang provinces.
The MoU on Nam Ou hydropower construction project was signed in 2005 and development agreement in 2007.
