Meeting supporting quota system held

SANA'A, Aug. 31 (Saba)- Under the motto of " Quota is the Solution",
the meeting for supporting woman's nomination in the forthcoming
parliamentarian elections called for activating president Saleh
electoral program that gives woman 15 percent for participation in
the elections.

Organized by Woman National Committee (WNC), Organization of
People's Will (OPW) and National Democratic Institute (NDI) with
participation of 30 participants from different Civil Society
Organization, the meeting called on President Ali Abdullah Saleh to
call political forces toped by People General Congress to amend law
of political forces pending woman nomination with percent of 15.

The meeting indicated necessity of applying quota system as a sole
choice for improving woman participation in decision making as
practical translation for president's electoral program and
five-year plan policies for development and poverty alleviation.

The meeting aimed at establishing a coalition from the WNC and civil
society organizations interested in human rights and supporting
woman's rights in political participation.

WNC's Chairwoman Hurriah Mashhour, Representatives of OPW Bushra
al-Iryani and Fatima Oqba on NDI delivered speeches all affirming
importance of woman's participation in political life away of
political differences and religious trends.
