Culture Undersecretary call for establishing an Islamic forum to reformulate moderate Islamic approach
Baghdad (NINA) – Culture Undersecretary, Tahir al-Hmoud, called for adopting a comprehensive Islamic culture that believes in moderation, eliminates violence and extremism, which some Islamic countries suffer from.
Source at the Ministry of Culture, quoted Hmoud during the Arab and Islamic countries' meeting on the side of the festival declaring the Algerian city of Tlemcen as the 2011 Capital of Islamic Culture, saying, "Establishing an Islamic Culture Forum brings together Moslem intellectuals to reformulate right Islamic approach and bring back to the world true picture of Islam."
He pointed out that Islamic civilization through out the ages has enriched the world's thought and civilized dialogue.
The Capital of Islamic Culture program aims to develop and protect the cultures of the Islamic nations amid globalization advancement.
It also aims to inform non-Moslem nations of true Islamic culture and civilization through out history.
Every year, the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) choose three cities from the Arab, African and Asian regions to become capitals of Islamic Culture. This year the ISESCO has chosen Telmsan (Algeria), Djakarta (Indonesia) and Conakry (Guinea) to be capitals of Islamic Culture. Next year Najaf (Iraq), Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Niami (Niger) are been chosen to become capitals of Islamic Culture.
