Labban: Gulf States’ request to cancel the Summit is hostile stance

Baghdad (NINA) – MP from State of Law Coalition, Sadeq Al Labban, described the Gulf Cooperation Council states’ request from the Arab League to cancel the Arab Summit in Baghdad or threatening to boycott it as “a hostile stance and bad indicator of the GCC States’ behavior with Iraq.

Labban told NINA that “this stance against holding the Summit in Baghdad is clear, it is surprising because it is not consistent with the Arab-Arab relations, and it could leave negative impact on these relations. We are really serious in developing relations with the GCC and the other Arab states.”

He went on saying “in case there was an Iraqi stance supportive to the Bahraini people, then, we wish the Gulf States would not respond to such a stance with a hostile stance, because this might leave bad impacts among the people’s spirits.”

He added that “we are not against any government, but, we raised our voices for the Bahraini people’s interests, against external interference.”

Bahrain’s foreign minister, Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, stated yesterday that “the Gulf states asked the AL to cancel the Arab Summit due to be held in Baghdad on next May.”

Observers believe that the Bahraini minister’s stance stems from Iraqi criticism of the security campaign against protests in Bahrain.
