PRESIDENT'S WIFE PLANTS TREES FOR FIRST GRANDCHILD
Jakarta, Aug. 30 (ANTARA) - First Lady Ani Yudhoyono said she had planted trees at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta and her private residence at Puri Cikeas, Bogor, to mark the birth of her first grand daughter, Almira Tunggadewi Yudhoyono.
"I have planted trees for my grandchild, namely breadfruit and canary trees at Merdeka Palace, and a coconut tree at Cikeas," Ani Yudhoyono said at Monas (National Monument here on Saturday when officially kicking off an exhibition to mark one decade of Indonesian women's awakening.
The two-day exhibition was organized by the women's empowerment ministry as part of the celebration of the centennial of National Awakening (19008-2008).
The First Lady urged the country's women to plant trees to mark their children's births and educate their children to take care of trees and preserve the environment beginning at an early age.
She expressed appreciation for the fact that Indonesian women had managed to plant around 10 million trees in a tree planting campaign last year.
Mrs Yudhoyono especially called for the planting of coconut and breadfruit trees because almost all parts of both trees are usaful.
President Yudhoyono and the first lady got their first grandchild on August 17, 2008, coinciding with Indonesia's Independence Day anniversary. The grandchild is the first baby of Annisa Pohan, wife of Yudhoyono's eldest son, Captain Agus Harimurti.
