Nijaifi, Czech Defence Minister discuss military cooperation

Baghdad (NINA) – Speaker of Parliament, Usama al-Nijaifi, discussed on Saturday, Apr. 9, with Czech Minister of Defence, Alexandr Vondra, military cooperation between Iraq and the Czech Republic and the possibility of modernizing Iraq's military defences.

A statement by the Speaker's Office said that in the meeting, Nijaifi was acquainted with the Czech military industry, especially with regards to air force, radar and light weapons; they also touched on the possibilities of cooperation in the military, scheduled to be discussed during the visit of Czech's Prime Minister to Iraq, scheduled for next month.

The Czech Minister of Defence expressed his country's readiness to cooperate with Iraq in the military field and to contribute in upgrading Iraq's defence system.

On the other hand, Nijaifi discussed with Czech official the on going developments in the region.

In response to a question by the Czech side on expanding the European Union to include Turkey, Nijaifi pointed out to Turkey's importance in the region and its political and economic success, asserting it being bridge connecting the East with the West and being joined the EU will be in the interest of dialogue between civilizations.
