Senate (Efforts being made to bring peace in all parts of country, Malik)

Islamabad, April 07, 2011 (PPI): Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said the government is making concerted efforts to bring peace in all parts of the country including Balochistan. Responding points of order in the Senate raised by the Senators regarding the problems of the missing persons of Balochistan he said the government is proceeding through a comprehensive strategy to recover missing persons.

He paid tributes to the Supreme Court regarding its role in recovering missing persons from all over the country. He said the judicial commission set up by the Supreme Court also done a fantastic job in this regard.

The Minister said on the proposal of judicial commission a special committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Secretary Defence which meets on daily basis to trace out the chronic cases of missing persons.

He said similarly a judicial commission has been formulated under the chairmanship of Justice Fazal-ur-Rehman which is not only receiving the complaints regarding missing persons but also working for their recovery.

He said the commission has set up in office in Islamabad to collect complaints however he will request the commission to also set up its offices in provincial capitals.

Rehman Malik said the judicial and the executive are working in collaboration to recover missing persons and a large number of missing persons out of six thousand have been recovered so far.

He said the judicial commission has so far has traced twenty-eight chronic cases of missing persons and one seventy-eight are still pending with it.

Coming to the ongoing action against terrorists the Interior Minister said we should not forget the commendable job done by the security forces to eliminate these elements and launching a successful operation against them in Swat and Malakand. He said this action against the terrorists and extremist will continue till its logic end.

He said these handful elements cannot deter government’s resolution to overcome this challenge and bring peace in the society.

Rehman Malik said these people intend to disintegrate Pakistan and are playing with the lives of innocent people but the government with the support of all political forces and people will foil their nefarious designs.

He said it is not time for political number scoring but to forge unity to overcome this challenge.

Meanwhile, The Chairman Senate announced to constitute a parliamentary committee to work for recovery of missing persons and overcoming target killing in Balochistan.
