UN Convention promotes people with disabilities rights

VIENTIANE,APRIL 4 .(KPL) Rights of people with disabilities have been improved since the Lao PDR acceded to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, according to the committee on writing national report on the implementation of the Convention in 2009.
The committee held a meeting to discuss the implementation of the UN Convention on March 30 in Vientiane.
The aim of the meeting was to review the progress in developing action plan on the development of people with disabilities at ministry levels and the allocation of exclusive objectives of action plans on people with disabilities development.
The Australian government has approved an assistance amounting to US$ 150,000 for the development of the action plan for 2008-2011.
Deputy Head of the Department of Pension, Invalid and Disabilities of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr. Phetsamone Phengsavanh, along with relevant officials were present at the meeting.
