Baghdad Operations says that no violation recorded during Tahreer Square demonstration

Baghdad (NINA) – The Baghdad Operations Command described the Friday, Mar. 25, demonstration in Tahreer Square, in central Baghdad, as being 'White Demonstration'.

In a statement to the press, spokesman for Baghdad Operations Command, General Qasim Ata, said, "Today's demonstration is characterized of being 'White' where security authorities did not record any violation and the demonstration went very smoothly."

He added, "The demonstrators' demands were practical and been handed to official authorities."

He added that he found it strange of what some satellite television stations have telecasted of shots from previous demonstrations, showing the weather of being clear and sunny, while in fact today's weather was cloudy and rainy.

On Friday, Mar. 25, hundreds of citizens demonstrated in Tahreer Square demanding the release of detainees, while others demanded the return of those dismissed for political reasons back to their works.

The Tahreer Square in central Baghdad is becoming, every Friday, a set location for people to gather and demonstrate; their demands vary from week to another, while the main demand remains of being to combat corruption and reforming the political system, as well as providing good services; in response Parliament has formed a committee charged with the task of looking into the demands, while Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki gave the ministries one hundred days to make required reforms and improve their performance.
