VIENTIANE ,MARCH (KPL) The General Political Department of the Armed Force, Ministry of National Defence organized on 23 March a meeting to mark the 56th birthday of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and to congratulate the 9th Party congress.
Present at the event were more than 1,000 soldiers including Minister of National Defence Lieutenant General Douangchay Phichit and Deputy Minister Major General Sengnouan Xayalath.
The meeting aimed to acknowledge and pay respects to the good deeds of the Party that led the Lao people to national liberation in 1975 and ensured the expansion of national development over the past 30 years.
The leading role of the Party has been enhanced continuously over the past 56 years, enabling the country to maintain political stability and boost development.
Maj Gen Sengnouan highlighted the background of the Party and its good deeds in directing the fight against foreign colonialists and bringing freedom to all Lao people.
“On this occasion, we’d like to express our deep gratitude to Party leaders, soldiers and the multi-ethnic Lao people for sacrificing their lives for the Party and nation,” Maj Gen Sengnouan said.
“We are satisfied and confident in the leadership role of the Party.
The more we know about the Party’s good deeds, the more we appreciate and trust the role of the Party with its origins in the Indochina Communist Party.”
The Party was founded on March 22, 1955, and set about expanding the revolutionary movement of the Lao people to fight against foreign aggressors.
Maj Gen Sengnouan said the establishment of the Party was a historical necessity to respond to the needs of Lao people, who held the spirit of patriotism and were ready to fight without surrender.
He said it was clear that the Lao people had been victorious on numerous battle fields since the establishment of the Party, with the strong unity of Lao people helping to protect their land from foreign invasion.
Over the past 56 years, the Party has consistently adhered to Marxist-Leninist doctrines for the benefit of the working classes and Lao people in all ethnic groups.
The Party gave attention to enhancing solidarity and unity in parallel with efforts to address negative elements within the Party membership.
The Party has pledged to consolidate its leadership role and build a transparent and strong leadership body for the collective benefit of the Lao nation and people.
The Resolution of the Ninth Party Congress approved on Monday stipulated breakthrough steps to alleviate poverty among Lao people and reach the Millennium Development Goals in 2015.
