Traditional culture enhanced in the new era

VIENTIANE,MARCH 22 .(KPL) - The ministry of information and culture has paid attention to creating awareness on the cultural policy for the Party, especially a resolution of the Party central committee on cultural affairs in the new are.
Comrade Mounkeo Oraboun, a Party Central Committee and Minister of Information and Culture gave a presentation on the succession and enhancements of traditional culture in the new are at the 9th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party held in Vientiane from 17-21 March.
The ministry displays Lao culture widely and colourfully, most notably in the cultural shows of the 25th Southeast Asian Games in Vientiane, 450th anniversary of the establishment of Vientiane as capital of Laos and 35th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Lao PDR.
Regarding development of cultural lives, the ministry has certified 260,971 families as cultural families, 1,181 villages as cultural villages, and 11 village clusters as cultural village clusters.
The ministry pays attention to protecting the two world heritage sites of Luangprabang town and Vat Phou Champassak. The ministry is now in the process of proposing the Plain of Jars in Xiengkhuang province and Phouhin Namnor in Khammuan province to UNESCO as world heritage sites.
The ministry joined hands with sectors concerned to renovate ancient temples and historical sites, including That Luang stupa, Hor Phakeo, Hor Phabang, Meuangkhao, Inghang and Viengxay town, and also protected some newly discovered ancient sites.
Over recent years, the traditional culture of Laos has been protected and progressively enhanced. The move reflects the ability to protect the valuable culture of Laos one of the main decisive factors to secure the existence of Lao culture and become a driving force of socio-economic development in our country, said Comrade Mounkeo Oraboun
