ISLAMABAD, March 22, 2011 (PPI): Hundreds of Muslims taken to the streets to protest against to condemn the desecration of a copy of the Holy Quran at a Florida church supervised by controversial American pastor, Terry Jones on Monday.

The activists of Jamaat Ahle Sunnat gathered outside the Islamabad Press Club and chanted slogans against Terry Jones, his aide colleague Wayne Sapp who reportedly committed desecration of a copy of the Holy Quran at a Florida church. Besides burning the US flags, the protesters demanded ’public execution’ of posters involved in this act. The demonstrators held up white flags bearing the slogan “God is greater’’ and chanted slogans against the US.

The recent act of US pastor has added to the already anti-US sentiments in Muslim world particularly in Pakistan which has been witnessing series of violent incidents on such issues.

Speaking at the occasion, Allama Riaz Hussain Shah while condemning the incident said it was clear testimony of West Islam-phobia. He also condemned the international community, United Nation and international organizations for their silence and failure to prevent such incident which were being committed to spoil the sentiments of Muslim Ummah.

He said it was unfortunate that Pakistani rulers were following the dictations of Zionist Lobby which was making every effort to defame the Islam. He said CIA contactor who killed three people in the broad day light easily escaped just because out rulers were their obedient.

“We are here to realize the government in power to at least take tough stand on desecration of Holy Quran”, he added. He also appealed to the entire Muslim world to get united against all such forces who the enemy of Islam.

He also announced countrywide protest demonstrations against Terry Jones however, future course of actions would be finalized in a meeting of Jamaat Ahle Sunnat scheduled to be held on April 7.

President Asif Ali Zardari during his address to the joint sitting of the parliament of Tuesday condemned the incident took place in Florida church and urged the international community and United Nation to take notice. He termed the incident as a bid to harm the efforts to build interfaith harmony and peace.

Last fall, Jones who heads a church of 50 followers, stoked international alarm with his claim he would light a bonfire with the Holy Quran on the anniversary of September 11th. He was eventually talked out of the action but not before President Barack Obama, the State Department, the FBI, the Pentagon and a stampede of interfaith voices cried out against his move.

The pastor had been repeatedly warned that the burning copies of the Quran could provoke a backlash of anger against U.S.
