Governor, CM messages on Pakistan Day

QUETTA, March 22, 2011 (PPI): March 23 occupies great significance in our history because on the same day in 1040 Pakistan Day Resolution was adopted in Lahore and Muslims of the sub continent had started their struggle for a separate home land under the dynamic leadership of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah

These views were expressed by Baluchistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi and Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani in their separate messages on occasion of Pakistan Day being observed Wednesday.

Governor said after seven years relentless struggle, numerous sacrifices bore result and Muslims succeeded in securing an independent and sovereign country Pakistan for them.

He said at this occasion we should make ourselves accountable that objectives for which we had secured Pakistan were successful to what extent and responsibilities vested in us were fulfilled by us We should replete on this day that we would maintain unity would work for national cohesion, country’s stability and development of the country and would not rest form sacrificing our lives for the security, stability and dignity for the country.

Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani said that after 70 years Pakistan Resolution is fully effective and by following it according to its spirit country and the nation can be steered out of crisis.

He said by following meaningful headway can be made by implementing 1940 resolution to strengthen Federation of Pakistan and stabilizing it. He said a country achieved due to long, democratic struggle and sacrifices of Muslims of Muslims of Sub Continent is confronted with important problems and national solidarity is needed much today as it was not earlier.

But he added this fact cannot be denied that injustices with smaller units of the federation during the past 63 years have harmed national solidarity and smaller provinces particularly Baluchistan’s sense of deprivation was becoming challenge for stability of Federation.

Nawab Raisani said that situation can be improved today for it rulers should review their behavior. He said provincial autonomy to the federating units according to 1940 Pakistan Day resolution can make positive headway.

International Expo on biodiversity

QUETT, March 22, 2011 (PPI): Pakistan Science Foundation as taking concrete measures for equipping young generation with modern and contemporary scientific knowledge and science research and concerned organisations development, their financial assistance and training of scholars.

These views were expressed by Chairman Pakistan Foundation Manzoor Hussain Soomro while speaking at International Expo on Biodiversity organized in collaboration with Pakistan Science Foundation, French Embassy and University of Baluchistan here Tuesday.

He Sid Science Foundation was setting up 15 new science centers in the country and two of them would be in Baluchistan. I T University have provided land for these centers.

Manzoor Soomro said that Science Foundation was working at different levels for the promotion and development of science in the country. He said its real objective is to develop scientific awareness among the students of schools, colleges, universities, scholars and people and today’s function is part of it. He asked scholars, students and people present at the expo to benefit from this exhibition.

He said that it was also organizing essay writing and posters competitions among students of schools and colleges and educational boards of the country while in schools and colleges science laboratories difficulties and supply of scientific equipment was also being paid special attention.

Pro VC University of Baluchistan Dr Mehrab Baloch said that University would extend every possible cooperation to Pakistan Science Foundation for development of science in the province. He appreciated Science Foundation for holding exhibition and its performance and hoped that scholars and students would benefit from this scientific exhibition.

Environment-(Pakistan confronting serious challenges of depleting water resources: DG Environment)

Islamabad, March 22, 2011 (PPI): Director General Environment, Jawed Ali Khan has said that Pakistan is confronting serious challenges of depleting water resources. The scale and pace of urbanization also poses a big challenge for the provision of safe drinking water in the country. He said that children are the principal victims of the neglect of water quality however; collective efforts have to be made to meet this core issue.

He expressed these views while addressing in a national workshop to celebrate World Water Day, organized by Ministry of Environment in collaboration of UNICEF, UN Habitat, PIEDAR, Water Aid and WASH here Tuesday. He read out the message of Secretary Environment on the occasion.

The Director General said that water availability per capita has decreased at an alarming rate and the challenge is further aggravated by groundwater pollution and depletion, rapid urbanization and growth of urban slums and squatter settlements. Unfortunately, most water supply, whether protected and treated at source or not, gets contaminated again in transmission or in handling at home or in the water tanks and containers. Javaid Ali Khan further informed the audience that diarrhea and many other deceases are caused by contaminated water, bad sanitation and poor hygiene practices. Mothers in the urban areas of Pakistan report that 11 percent of their children fell ill with an episode of diarrhea in the previous month. This is in fact somewhat higher than in the rural areas of the country.

He told that Ministry of Environment, UNICEF, UN-HABITAT and other partners are committed to promote the children to become the agents of change as the fresh and innovative thinking always comes from the young in every society. The D.G told that, this year the theme for World Water Day is “Water and Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge” that gives us direction to move for the betterment of the people. This year we have decided to observe World Water Day as a demonstration of Children-Led initiatives for water purification at point of use. The messages that emerge from the plays and dramas presented today must be spread to every nook and corner of the county. He ensured that government will leave no stone un-turned to provide all possible facilities for the provision of clean drinking water to the public.

Director Environment Irfan Tariq said in his address that government is aware of the water issue in the country. Water scarcity issue is becoming worse day by day however we have to bring change in our habits to over-come water crisis. We have to adopt good practices to consume the water according to the need. He urged to discourage the community for misuse of water resources.

On this occasion, Director General impressed by seeing the methods that children propose for water purification and listening the stories and skits that child presented to promote water purification in every home and school across the country. Children from different educational institutes, officials of Ministry of Environment and related organizations, media and huge number of general public participated in this national workshop.
