Korea approves two grant aid projects for social uplift in Pakistan


Islamabad, March 16, 2011 (PPI): Government of Korea has approved grant aid projects for the year 2011. The new projects, to be implemented by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Two projects including "Provision of water supply & sewerage drainage schemes" in tehsil Phalia, district Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab for villages adversely impacted by the Sugar Colony Mill and Construction of "National Capacity Building Institute for water Quality Management" in Islamabad in co-ordination with Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR).

Feasibility survey for these projects were conducted by an official Korean delegation of experts in November 2010. The Korean delegates visited the project sites, federal and provincial government offices to collect technical information and share views.

These grant aid projects are in addition to the KOICA's ongoing training programs for Pakistani officials and ODA projects in the fields of textile industry, vocational training etc.

It is expected that these projects will contribute in the socio-economic development of Pakistan and will perform an important role in exchange of technology and cultural relations between the two friendly countries. Korea will continue its efforts to pursue social uplift projects in Pakistan.
